What is Global Semester?

Global Semester is an intentional 8-week internship for those who are considering God’s calling to serve in cross-cultural ministry locally or globally.  This experience is an opportunity to “test out” a lifestyle of prayer, discipleship and ministry while being guided and accompanied by a mentoring couple. This 8-week program is cohort-based and aims to develop emerging leaders to embody the Alliance values of being Christ-centred, Spirit-empowered and mission-focused in a cross-cultural setting.

The Global Semester program launches two times a year and will visit a different field each time.

  • pre-ministry training
  • intentional learning content
  • post-experience reflection and debrief, and
  • 1 week of living with a host family.

Each cohort will also experience communal living, peer discipleship and one-on-one coaching.

  • learning language and culture
  • practicing intercessory prayer
  • learning about worldview and contextualization, and
  • reflecting on theology, ministry and mission.

Jose and Joscelyn

Global Semester Coordinators

Joscelyn grew up in a Christian home and sensed a call to missions at a young age. As an Ambrose University alumnus, she studied Intercultural Studies and completed an ONSITE internship in Kenya. She also attained a TESOL diploma and led several short-term teams.

Since following Jesus in high school and graduating from UBC, Jose’s sense of calling was formed through a series of onramps, such as the Perspectives Course, several internships overseas, and a master’s degree at Regent College.

After serving in Guinea and Niger, they returned to Canada in 2017 with a continued sense of God’s call to cross-cultural ministry overseas and a passion to mentor the next generation of leaders. They are connecting with churches to communicate the vision of Global Semester and journeying with them in identifying potential candidates. J&J coordinate with team leaders and regional developers to plan for the logistics and curriculum for each of the Global Semester cohorts as well as overseeing apprentices, interns, and short-term teams in the Sand Region.
