Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2020:

As we continue to monitor the development and progression of COVID-19 here in Canada and abroad, we are maintaining a pause on all missional engagements until Spring 2021. We understand that many churches and individuals may be disappointed by the lack of opportunities to serve through Envision immediately. With wisdom, discernment, and guidance, we continue the same guidelines as per our previous update back in April 2020:

  1. Envision trips (10-days) originally scheduled for 2020 have been postponed to 2021. Churches may choose to continue planning for their trips for Summer of 2021 with the understanding that they may be further postponed during the pandemic.  More details regarding options for virtual trips with selected sites coming soon!

  2. Envision internships including cohort gap programs (2-12 months). Domestic internships have continued throughout this season. Any internship or gap year program scheduled until Spring of 2021 have been postponed. We continue to monitor as information becomes available by government and healthcare officials worldwide. The safety and well-being of all participants continues to be our highest priority.

  3. The Envision Office as part of the C&MA National Ministry Centre based in Toronto ON is still closed until further notice, please contact us at envision@cmacan.org to get in touch!

APRIL 30TH, 2020:

We continue to monitor the development and progression of COVID-19 and its impact in Canada and abroad.  It is our hope that we will be able to return to facilitating missional engagements as soon as possible, however, that is far from certain.  We will continue to follow the guidance provided by government and healthcare officials, as well as the leadership of the C&MA in Canada when making decisions related to travel.

As an update since last month:

  1. Envision trips (10-days) originally scheduled for 2020 have been postponed for 2021. Our office has been in contact with churches and trip leaders regarding financial arrangements and any next steps. While dates may be held for Envision trips in 2021, we will not be confirming any trips or issuing any deposit invoices at this time. A further update on this will be provided by June 1, 2020.
  2. Envision internships including cohort gap programs (2-12 months) originally scheduled for 2020 deployment will remain as postponed until 2021.  A further update on these will be provided as more consistent  information becomes available by government and healthcare officials worldwide. The safety and well-being of all participants continues to be our highest priority.
  3. The Envision Office as part of the C&MA National Ministry Centre based in Toronto ON is still closed until further notice, please contact us at envision@cmacan.org to get in touch.

In the meantime, we are excited to promote ways YOU can join in new prayer initiatives being launched by emerging leaders, for emerging leaders.  Join the Envision team for one or both of these gatherings to collectively raise our voices in song and in prayer!

MARCH 17TH, 2020:

Due to the growing impact of COVID-19 both in Canada and abroad, as well as the newly mandated government guidelines surrounding travel during this period, we have been advised by the executive leadership of the C&MA in Canada to make the following decisions, for the protection and well-being of all those we serve.

  • All Envision trips originally scheduled until July 1st, 2020 have been postponed until further notice. All trips scheduled in July 2020 and beyond are currently being reviewed.
  • Arrangements have been made for all Justice Semester 2020 students to return back to Canada by March 18th, 2020. Online debriefs will be scheduled as returning students follow self-monitoring and quarantine for the next 14 days upon arrival.
  • Envision internships are currently being reviewed case by case with global teams and necessary arrangements will be made promptly, as needed.
  • The Envision Office as part of the C&MA National Ministry Centre based in Toronto ON is now closed until further notice, please contact us at envision@cmacan.org to get in touch with us.

Thank you for your ongoing support and prayers as we traverse this wave of changes and logistical challenges. We are trusting the Lord for strength, wisdom, guidance, and collective discernment in ensuring and stewarding those who engage with us. In the midst of such chaotic times, it may be easy to give into fear and isolation, but we continue to look to Him for peace and renewed courage.

To God be the glory! {Isaiah 44:10}

MARCH 10TH, 2020:

The spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) continues to be on news headlines around the world. With the number of new daily cases outside of China surpassing those within, and with the number of countries with confirmed cases on the rise, we felt a communication from our office would be important and timely.

  1. With consideration, prayer, and discussion with Envision US office,  we have decided to postpone the Summit in New York originally scheduled for May 11th-14th, 2020 until further notice. If you have already registered and paid for Summit, we will be issuing a reimbursement of registration cost.
  2. Additionally, all missional engagements (trips, internships, semester-programs) originally scheduled to depart in these next weeks and months are under careful review. We will be contacting each intern and trip leader accordingly to advise on best next steps to ensure best measures for your trip including possible postponement and reimbursement.

We will be posting a letter this week which outlines key facts for you to read, with a concise summary included below:

While this virus is spreading further and more rapidly than the SARS and H1N1 flu viruses of the past, and is more fatal than normal flu viruses that affect the world annually, we believe a best strategy for most of us is to exercise wise precautions in the locations where we live.

And while the severe and lethal effects of the virus have generally affected elderly populations with vulnerabilities in respiratory and/or immune systems, we recognize that there is nonetheless the risk of carrying the virus back home or to another location.

In all likelihood, the virus will continue to affect a high number of people in various locations before it diminishes, making our plans to gather and travel more difficult.

As a result, we have been recommended to reevaluate all non-essential travel in general, keeping an eye on current travel warnings for the areas we are sending teams and individuals and organizing gatherings. Given the increase of critical areas that are already affected, it would not be surprising to see more cases develop in Africa, Latin America, and North America in the weeks to come.

In the meantime, we will continue to be watchful, consider the facts and think through the implications - weighing the risks for future gatherings and missional engagements in the months to come.

Feel free to reach out, we'd love to assist you in any way:
